Worst place ever!!!

By: Peter, Canada Posted: 2012-02-07

This place is horrible. Not just the typical watered down booze and tasteless food that you'd expect from a Cuban resort, but the rooms are falling apart, the service is terrible and the beach is filthy.

Our Favourite Place!!!

This was our second trip back to PCV, and we cannot find anyplace better to spend our vacation time. The staff are fantastic, everything is close by, and the food improves everytime we are there.

We are returning again this March to celebrate our 25th, and can't wait to get there.

Highly recommended!!!

FANTASTIC!!!

I've been to Cuba 5 times and this is my favourite resort. What made it amazing was the coral reef (unfortunately dead) near the beach. I got to dive and swim with tropical fish without having to pay the usual 50 pesos for the excursion. It was a challenge getting over rocks at the beginning of the ocean, but in a meter or so you were greeted by the clear sandy floor. If you need the clear sandy floor from the beginning, you can just walk a few meters down the beach and enter the ocean in front of another resort.

The staff are amazing. We had a minor issue with our electricity and the repair man was there in half an hour. We bungled our Christmas dinner reservations, and they squeezed us in. Everyone from the guards to the entertainers, cooks, servers, lobby staff, etc. were just wonderful. Also, I did not feel that need that I had to tip them for any minor service. They were just happy to help. In other resorts I visited, I found that the service went down hill if you did not give them a peso for receiving a glass of water. (My sister being a student, and I being a recent student with OSAP debt and only managing this vecation because it was a present, we did not have a lot of money to spend and the resort is all inclusive.)

Food was great. The resort and beach were clean. The rooms were spacious and well equipped (hairdryer, ironing board and iron, TV (not that we watched it), plenty of shelves and closet space...) Water was pristine and so clear you could see clearly to the bottom when swimming.

There were mosquitoes, but that is only to be expected. Make sure you bring lots of bug-spray to ward them off.

The only reason I did not give this resort 10 out of 10 is their entertainment. Entertainment shows were too westernized without that wonderful Cuban flavour. They did not have any activities on the beach. All of the activities (such as dancing and Spanish lessons, water aerobics, yoga...) were done at the pool, or in the lobby. So, those of you who look forward to those activities may be disappointed.

However, on these trips I go for the sun, the beach and the ocean. My only other requirements are a clean room and good food. In my case, this resort surpassed my expectations.

Thank you all for making my vacation wonderful!

I had a WONDERFUL experience here. It was my first time in Cuba and I WILL DEFINITELY be back. The staff are AMAZING. Nestor and Roberto from the lobby bar are two really awesome guys. I had the chance to get to know them and am currently missing them soooo much. Rafael from the Snack Bar is also AWESOME. Scooby (Yoander) and George from animacions are pretty wicked too. I had some amazing amazing AMAZING times here and am very sad to be returning to school/work tomorrow. I cannot wait to be back.

Nestor and Roberto and the two sweetest guys I have ever met.

Tu eres muy bonito. Que lindo chico! Loquito! Te amo. Miss you guys lots. :(

Not our first trip to Cuba.We have been to Domincan Republic and Cuba.My wife and I have been to this resort before and will return again. The staff is great and always friendly.I have been told to take my own food to Cuba but the buffet has alot of variety and is always very good.I also like the way the resort is laid out.I don't like staying at big hotels on the beach. The beach is excellent(very relaxing,no venders bothering you).I have nothing bad to say about this resort as the staff make you feel at home and if you want to treated like royalty then maybe you shood book a trip to England and stay with the Queen.

Best resort in Cuba!

I highly reccomend Playa Costa Verde! The staff is so friendly from the bartender's to waiters, chefs, lifeguards, vendors, etc.

Italian was my favourite restaurant (procuitto/ chicken are amazing along with the neopolitain icecream dessert). The buffet breakfast was also a favourite aswell, unfortunatly breakfast closes at 10;30 so we missed it quite a few times. When eatting at the snack bar i reccomend the ham and cheese sandwhich, vegetarian pizza and the calzone. The steakhouse restaurant looked and smelled really wonderful, unfortunatley we didn't have the chance to try it out since it was 10$/ person.

If your looking on doing any outing's with sunwing/ tour's i reccomend the Catamaryan - swimming with dolphins or bay adventure. I would not reccomend the Santiago tour- not worth the 6 hour bus ride, try the Holigun tour!

P.S. Unlimited bar service was nice. The lobby bar/ other bar's offer the BEST coffee- try the Cappicino! i ended up leaving buying two packages of coffee beans, i fell in love!

Plus at the bar i reccomend the ..

Champagne, screwdrivers (vodka/ orange juice), mojitos, crazy costa verde and tequila sunrise.

I'd reccomend a second floor room CLOSE to the lobby. some of the rooms are quite a distance away.

Everynight they throw amazing shows from fashion shows, to entertainment of dancers, singers/ bands, plays and more.

The nightclub starts at 11pm and is fun to goto with friends, unfortunatly it closes at 2pm. We decided to head off to the snack bar afterwards most of the time to get some food and more drinks.

i had a excellent time met very professional people who took care of my family for the week. all the staff were very friendly, but i loved the animation staff ricky, scrappy, and scobby. these guys made this trip very exciting and took care of us like were family!! i cant wait tell i come back to PCV.

Ditto to the others, no one has mentioned the snorkelling!!

By: Cathy, Canada Posted: 2011-08-14

I have been three times. They have a special plan whereby if you go 5 times, the next one is free. We booked 3 rooms last time and brought our adult kids and grandson. Returning guests get special treatment...lobster dinner by the pool while watching water ballet.

I love the staff and everything about the place. Tired of the buffet for lunch? Go down to the Cuban restaurant near the beach for an a la carte lunch. Wait in line for the fresh-cooked foods in the buffet restaurant, especially at breakfast.

The biggest draw for me is the snorkelling. Best to go in the morning (before noon); the waves are a bit high in the afternoon. Just swim straight out from the beach. Bring a banana or two in a zip-lock bag. Pack one or two baggies in your suitcase. Bring your camera and snap to your hearts' content. I think we took over 100 photos underwater the first time. You will be swarmed by gorgeous parot fish and other colourful varieties.

Bring gifts for the staff i.e. shampoo, fluoride toothpaste, ladies-sanitary products. 1-peso-tips are most welcome by the servers and room attendants.

Ask the restaurant staff about their education. We found most were university-educated and are proud to talk about their background and families.

What brings me back over and over...the people...the price and the snorkelling especially.

Welcome to my site dedicated to the Hotel Playa Costa Verde in Holguin, Cuba. I am "poco a poco" researching and updating it with the aim to provide as complete as possible record of the hotel's ancient and recent history; bearing in mind that the goings-on today may one day be of historical interest.

My site is NOT the official website of the current hotel operator, and is by no means endorsed by them; but I am grateful for their help with the research.

You can make from this site room reservations through the Bizloco eTravel System operated by Cubaism Ltd.

Best wishes for 2012
